Check our Shop Week calendar to see what events are happening in the city to celebrate Shop for Public Schools. These are events for everyone, from in-store receptions to press events to neighborhood gatherings. Each, in its own unique way, engages New Yorkers in this city-wide effort to improve school libraries by shopping.Meet Author Valerie Tripp and Shop to Help Public Schools
Merchant Host: American Girl PlaceAre you a fan of Felicity, Josefina, Kit, Molly and other favorite American Girl character books? Want to help spread the love of reading to thousand of NYC school students? Well here’s an event you can’t miss: Come meet Valerie Tripp, the award-winning author of dozens of the beloved American Girl historical character books! At this informal gathering, Ms. Tripp will be happy to sign your favorite American Girl books.
Best of all, American Girl Place New York will donate a percentage of the day’s sales to The Fund for Public Schools’ Library REACH initiative as part of Shop for Public Schools. From 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM on October 1, Valerie will take part in a free book signing. At 5:30 PM, get ready to participate in Kits’ Friendship Fun Dinner in the American Girl Café. Storytimes at Barnes & Noble
Merchant Host: Barnes & Noble BooksellersBarnes & Noble will be hosting special Storytimes during Shop for Public Schools. Families are invited to hear stories, meet guest readers, and enjoy activities in Barnes & Noble stores throughout New York City. These events will be held during Shop week at the following locations:
- 82nd & Broadway (Upper West Side): October 7 at 10:00 am
- 97 Warren Street (Tribeca): October 8 at 11:00 am
- East 17th Street (Union Square): October 4 at 2:30 pm
- 86th and Lexington (Upper East Side): October 4 at 11:00 am
- 66th and Broadway (Lincoln Center): October 4 at 12 noon featuring Alex Von Bidder, Wiggens Learns His Manners at the Four Seasons Restaurant
- Brooklyn (Park Slope): October 3 at 12:00 noon - appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog
- Brooklyn (Court Street): October 6 at 11:00 am
- Queens - Austin Street (Forest Hills): October 5 at 3:30 pm
- Queens - Union Turnpike (Fresh Meadows): October 1 at 7:00 pm, featuring PS 182 librarian Margaret Menger
- Bronx - Baychester Avenue (Bay Plaza): October 3 at 11:00 am, featuring new Winnie the Pooh book

A Day of Family Fun with Laurie Berkner
Merchant Host: CitibabesPhilanthropically-minded gift boutique Alex&Sam has partnered with family membership club Citibabes, and Parenting Magazine, the nation's premier magazine for moms, to present a marquee children's event for Shop for Public Schools at Citibabes’ Soho location. The day will be jam-packed with activities and events for kids and grownups alike. Special appearances will include:
- Famed children's entertainer Laurie Berkner will perform a selection of fan-favorite songs
- Amy Robach, Co-Anchor of Today Show Weekend Edition, will emcee the event
- Parenting magazine's editor-in-chief Susan Kane will read children's classics to the children
- Today's Mom authors Alicia Ybarbo and Maryann Steller will discuss their experiences in balancing work and family
- Dr. Emily Levy of EBL Coaching will present a workshop for parents on pre-reading skills
- Surprise celebrity appearance
Arts & Crafts activities, shopping from Alex&Sam, gift bags, and a raffle guarantee a good time for the whole family. Proceeds from day will benefit public school libraries through Shop for Public Schools. The first 50 families to RSVP will receive a VIP gift bag!

Parenting Magazine Partnering with Citibabes to Promote Shop!
Merchant Host: CitibabesParenting magazine is proud to support The Fund for Public Schools in its efforts to encourage parents to get more involved in advocating for better educational resources for New York City children. In addition to participating in the Shop for Public Schools event for families at Citibabes on October 4th, Parenting will be promoting Shop Week activities on Parenting.com, and through its Mom Congress on Education and Learning initiative, a new effort to celebrate and connect moms advocating for education reform.
