Dangerous Mathematicians
Dangerous Mathematicians was opened by math-teacher-turned-fashion-designer Karen Patwa. The boutique houses Ms. Patwa's own Dangerous Mathematicians clothing line alongside select European labels and jewelry from a variety of independent New York jewelry designers. The new pink lingerie section tucked into the back of the boutique carries uniquely styled pieces, which are stunningly beautiful and reasonably priced. Affordable custom design services are also offered at the boutique.
Tucked neatly between a tailor shop and a schoolyard on Rivington Street, Dangerous Mathematicians has quickly established itself as an intrepid mover and shaker in fashion on the trendy Lower East Side.
Ms. Patwa was a math teacher for many years, during which time she studied Fashion Design at FIT. She entered the field of fashion with a pointed goal: to use mathematics as a fashion tool to help women reflect their intellectual and sexual power through strong, structured cuts and elegant fabrics.
With a chalkboard wall covered with mathematical equations and textbooks (Ms. Patwa's own) lying around on jewelry cases and in between clothing racks, the role of "mathematics" at Dangerous Mathematicians is clear. Upon looking closely, one will notice that the particular lines and curves Ms. Patwa employs in her clothing reflect the organic ones that are scrawled across the chalkboard and pictured in those textbooks. Sexy thinkers love Dangerous Mathematicians!
